Photos surfaced this week of 14-time Olympic swimming phenom Michael Phelps smoking weed. UK based News of the World were the first to show the pics of said Michael Phelps / Bong, and are going on as if this could ruin his career.
I'm going to file this one under "I really shouldn't care". Michael Phelps was out partying with some college kids and he took a toke from a bong. So what? I'd be more disturbed if he DIDN'T hit it. Would mean he's not human, but probably some type of super-alien. Which, in hindsight, shouldn't we already know from his ability to make people actually care about swimming as a sport?
I'm going to go on a limb and say Michael Phelps is the luckiest man alive. He's not traditionally handsome (and by that I mean he got beat by the ugly stick as a kid), but he's somehow become the hottest thing out there. Means he should be getting all sorts of tail. So let me tell you what should be going through the mind of Michael Phelps: Bong or Joint. He's pretty much peaked at the age of, what, 24?
Let him enjoy his retirement. He's deserved it.

Oh well, hindsight is 20-20 and all.
He might end up being our next president.

(Accept no substitutes)
But should we really care about him doing this during his personal time? Americans glamorize drinking, yet get so uptight about smoking weed. Come on...it's not like he was cooking something up in a meth lab.

For something so illegal and dangerous, users really seem to go places
As for whoever left the comment about "interest in swimming" FYI swimming is one of the more popular events in the Olympics.

Not to mention his admitted cocaine use.
This is the problem with America. If you know how to catch a football, shoot a basketball, or in this case swim fast, many times, and faster than everyone else, you are a role model.
Who gave this guy, the title of 'role model'? Tammy from Gather?
He is a young man being a young man. If you selected him as your "role model", go shop for a new one.
Christos...Phelps put himself in the position of being a role model. If he's mature enough to represent large companies and reap the rewards then he should accept the role of role model. He knew young people would look up to him and admire him and try to be like him.
He's young, yes, but 24 years old is a good time to grow up and be a man. Want to smoke a little weed, then be responsible about it.
"Not a big deal since so many smoke pot. He's only human. At least he's not doing cocaine or crystal meth"
So since so many people smoke weed then it makes it okay? A lot of people do cocaine and meth too, but that's not okay? Sure, meth and cocaine are more powerful, but like weed, it's illegal. He has a responsiblity to his sponsors to abide by the law and represent them by being responsible. When he does something that makes him look bad, like breaking the law by smoking weed, it makes his sponsors look bad.
I know that people will look up to him as an idol and a hero but this is what he enjoys and i'm sure that he could be doing worse
