It was sad to see Farrah Fawcett's health decline as she fought against cancer and ultimately lost. For years, we also watched her tumultuous relationship with Ryan O'Neal. It reminds me the most beautiful, talented people can still make questionable choices when it comes to relationships.
Recently O'Neal talked to Vanity Fair mag about what he'd do if he had another chance with Farrah. "I would have been much kinder, more understanding, more mature. I'd lose some of the savagery. I don't know how she got cancer; maybe some of it was me."
The duo spent time apart then reconnected when Ryan faced chronic myelogenous leukemia in 2001. He said about the alleged breakup, "I talked to her every day. We pulled apart, but we never popped loose." Apparently many of their disputes were about son Redmond.
Griffin O'Neal, Ryan's son from another marriage, feels his dad's motives for being close to Farrah in her final days were unwholesome, stating his "only goal was to make sure he would be in the will. It was so disgustingly transparent as soon as he found out she was terminal. I consider him a vulture presiding over a carcass."
I don't think Ryan's daughter Tatum O'Neal will be saying anything nice, either. Daddy hit on his own daughter at Farrah's funeral. Yup, you read that correctly. Ryan admitted it himself, stating, "I had just put the casket in the hearse and was watching it drive away when a beautiful blonde woman comes up and embraces me. I said to her, 'You have a drink on you? You have a car?' She said, 'Daddy, it's me-Tatum!' I was just trying to be funny with a strange Swedish woman, and it's my daughter. It's so sick."
Why the heck was Ryan hitting on ANYONE at Farrah's funeral - even in jest? How disrespectful! Tatum talked about the incident, "that's our relationship in a nutshell..... You make of it what you will ... he was always a ladies' man, a bon vivant."
I do wonder how much of an impact that had on our beloved Farrah, God rest her soul. It reminds us to be good to the ones we love everyday as we don't know how long we'll have them.
