ABC’s new witch show Eastwick will be making its debut tonight at 10 p.m. The show, which stars Rebecca Romijn, Jamie Ray Newman and Lindsay Price, is based on the movie and the John Updike books of the same name.
A number of reviewers are already trashing the show. Based on the previews and interview I’ve seen, I share their doubt about the series being able to make magic. As Tom Shales of the Washington Post says, “‘Eastwick’ has already been christened ‘Desperate Witches’ for its resemblance to ABC's facetious murder mystery ‘Desperate Housewives, which has been running on fumes for quite some time.â€
The interview “Top 5 Fan Questions for Eastwick,†which featured the trio of leading women from that show, had an uncomfortable “bad soap opera†feeling to it. In fact, I stopped the video before it was finished.
I will, however, check the show out tonight. Will I make it through an entire episode? That remains to be seen.
