Lee Dewyze is continuing press circuit and appearances as the result of his American Idol win. His latest stop was announced a couple of days ago as he was picked to sing the national anthem for game 2 of the 2010 NBA Finals featuring the Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics. The Lakers pulled out a win in Game 1. Game 2 took place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
The buzz around Lee lately is how his first single did not top the charts. He performed a cover and not an original song. We all know American Idol is not the same competition that it used to be years ago when it started.
Let's look at the last three winners. No offense to Lee Dewyze, but he is almost a carbon of the last two winners of American Idol. The female was heavily favored this season, especially after her performances in the finale, but Lee Dewyze still managed to pull out the win. Do you think a woman can win this American Idol?
Check out his performance of the national anthem earlier tonight at the 2010 NBA Finals. What do you think? For more of my American Idol coverage, go here. For the latest in television news from me, go here.

American Idol is a singing contest. Let’s listen to what the music experts have analyzed their performances:
“If the finals were the deciding factor, Crystal won it in a walk. If all the season's performances were the basis for decision, Crystal easily won there, too. She seized the moment and outsang Lee at every turn.
It was a sad night for those who cling to the quaint notion that American Idol is a singing contest. Based on Tuesday night's performances, and those of the entire season, Crystal won that contest by a mile. She would have made a refreshing kind of champion. Instead, a pale orthodoxy triumphed.”

With ONE CALL = ONE VOTE, Crystal would have won in a LANDSLIDE: 66% vs 34% for Lee!
American Idol Voting System is absolutely flawed. Understandably American Idol rating goes down drastically. The last two seasons had strong evidence that serious viewers and talented artists won’t want to waste their time to participate or even to watch the show!
"And we did it! Lee DeWyze wins American Idol. After Crystal Bowersox totally bested him at every single song last night, he still won. VFTW pulls off miracles along with the frauen and tweens. Now, the guy that sang "What would you do if I sang out of tune" out of tune is the winner of American Idol. Please send all thank you letters to mail@votefortheworst.com to thank us for saving the season with our awesomeness. With only 2% separating the vote, it was the VFTW votes that obviously pushed Lee to the victory. We did it again, the out of tune paint salesman won Idol. Woo hoo!" (Exerpt from VoteForTheWorst.com)
Selling record albums depends upon artists’ genre/song choices, promotional activities, surely studio performances as well. American Idols release their albums usually in November. The sales of the release of their ‘winner’s songs’ immediately after the finale are not necessarily the gauge of success. Lee’s & Crystal’s success in that regard remains to be seen in November.
Example of Season 8:
‘Week Ending May 24, 2009: The Kris/Adam Duel’ May 27, 2009 by Paul Grein in Chart Watch
American Idol Season 8 winner Kris Allen sold more downloads this past week than runner-up Adam Lambert did.
‘Adam Lambert’s album to outsell Kris Allen’s by a wide margin’ November 27, 2009, by Rodney Ho
Early returns for Adam Lambert’s “For Your Entertainment” from billboard.com show the album will sell about 225,000 this week. Kris Allen last week sold 80,000, the lowest ever for an “Idol” winner.
Here's a little tidbit for you.....what is a 'critic'? Just a person with an opinion. People are the true critics and the only ones that matter and come November there is no doubt in my mind that the person with the most relevant sound and music will prevail. Again, for me that person is Lee! And for you, it's Crystal - so enjoy.
