On Monday's Colbert Report, Leslie Kean, a UFO expert and author of a new book, had to take a little heat from Stephen Colbert about her claims that very respectable people such as Generals, pilots and prominent politicians have witnessed real UFOs and are slowly going on the record with their accounts. Naturally, it's all in her book.

Titled "UFOs: Generals, Pilots and Government Officials Go On the Record" the book, 10 years in the making, claims that more and more respectable officials are close to revealing that, while UFOs may not be extra-terrestrial, they certainly are real. And that she is calling on governments around the world to reveal the secret files they are all hiding from public view. But Stephen wasn't buying.
In this YouTube video of the segment below, Colbert is obviously skeptical. In his usual way he cuts right through the bluster and found out that these officials may not be as prominent as advertised. "Real Generals?" he asks, "or like, Captain Crunch?"
See for yourself how the issue is skirted but the result is the same as with every author trying to tease readers with ultimately non-issues: buy the book and find out for yourself.
Kean does score points for brazenness. It's obvious that SHE believes it. As evidence she points to the famous UFO incident over Chicago's O'Hare airport in November of 2006, claiming thousands of people witnessed the event. And that the video is all over the web.
Despite an hour of scouring, it's nowhere to be found. At least a video that isn't obviously faked.
Just like UFOs...

All she's saying is that the issue deserves to be investigated because there are still open questions. It's not all that radical an idea.

First off, Leslie never said anything about thousands of people seeing the O'Hare UFO, although later in the interview she mentions how thousands of people have claimed to have seen unidentified craft in general.
Also she never claimed that there was ever any video of the event because at this point, there is no video known to have been taken of the event. Thats why you couldn't find it. What she was referring to was Googling "Chicago, O'Hare, UFO". What you would find is the original Chicago tribune article about the event that made front page news that day.
Not only that. That article alone has received more hits to date than any other article that the Tribune has posted online. As a rule, large name papers like the Tribune tend to not publish stories on the front page of their newspaper if it was a non existent event that never actually happened.... nuff said.
Sorry you wasted that hour but pay more attention to what people are saying in the first place rather than developing opinions and making decisions about things before you know all the facts and elements to an issue.
Oh by the way, you know how much time Colbert spends looking into the subject of UFO's? I would gamble on very little. When you do that its much easier to take a stance of denial on something. If youre someone who's looked at alot of factors about an issue like UFO's you would know that there are often many factors which lead to events being justifiably unexplainable and inconclusive.
Do a little more question asking than opinion forming and you may be surprised at what you find.
She said, it was, all over. Look it up on the Internet and you'll see the reports. Then the story went away, just like she said.
That's the problem with mixing real news with attempted comedy.
All the little boys and girls think Jon Stewart and Colbert are real news men. They are just comedians. At best.
You gotta pay attention to details if you're gonna expose yourself this way Tom.
Learn from your mistake, we all make them, and move on.
You'll grow from it.
