While still good for the 10,000th rerun of Top Gun (with commercials!) AMC continues its move into original series with The Walking Dead, whose zombie-filled first trailer, below, debuts today.
The show, based on a series of Robert Kirkman comics and overseen by Frank Darabont (director of The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, and perhaps most relevantly The Mist, tells the tale of a cop (played by British actor Andrew Lincoln) who awakes in a hospital after being treated for a gunshot wound to find the world overrun by zombies. As tends to happen.
The series debuts on Halloween night (aieeee!) and AMC hopes are high that it has another Mad Men or Breaking Bad on its hands. Frankly, I think outrunning zombies week after week could get a bit old, especially since George "A." Romero and others continue to churn out big-screen brain-eating adventures, but this one definitely seems worth a look.
The trailer is a long 'un, but builds pretty steadily in a suspense-terror-holy-cats-did-you-see-that vein, as the Walker Brothers croon "The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine No More" in the background.
Zombies! Are they this year's vampires? Or last year's werewolves? Or next Wednesday's blue-plate special? Tune in on October 31...if you dare! Bwahahaha, etc.
