It looks like 2011 is starting off great for the hottest female rapper in the game, Nicki Minaj. The "Pink Barbie of rap" has herself a certified platinum album according to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
The album (pictured at left via Amazon.com) is called "Pink Friday" and currently sells via digital download for just $3.99, giving it increased online sales. Amazon currently has the album with 164 customer reviews and a 3 out of 5 star rating. There's 62 perfect 5-star reviews, but 49 1-star reviews, reflecting she has her share of haters. Still, you can't argue with the sales figures. Nicki Minaj recently tweeted about her first solo album's major success, saying just minutes ago:
Pink Friday remains the #2 Rap Album and the #4 Album in the country on Billboard's 200. Thank you for your continued support.
Meanwhile on her site, MyPinkFriday.com, Minaj has the official news:
After just five weeks, the RIAA has certified 'Pink Friday' platinum. Minaj's debut album has already shipped one million units in the united states! Congrats Nicki!
The album is likely enjoying strong sales off Minaj's hit songs including "Right Thru Me," "Your Love," and her collaboration with Eminem called "Roman's Revenge." Also, Minaj has done a lot of outside work with other artists including Lil' Wayne, Ludacris, and most recently Kanye West. Minaj will be a part of the controversial Kanye West music video "Monster" which recently leaked online. Add to all of that an ongoing feud started by Lil' Kim, and it spells out sales success for Miss Nicki Minaj. It seems this is just the start of what could become a stellar female rap career for Minaj.
What do you think of Nicki Minaj's album "Pink Friday" and her overall rap style? Is it worth the listen or too annoying?
