Tim Allen is making a television comeback in a new pilot for ABC. Will the former tool man help push ABC to number one again? Or are his glory days behind him?
The pilot, currently untitled, will star Allen as a manly man surrounded in his life by women, "Even though the world around him has declared the traditional male an ‘endangered species,’ Tim Fitzgerald is fighting for his manhood in a world that is being increasingly dominated by women.”
Tim Allen, fresh off of his much-loved role as Buzz Lightyear in "Toy Story 3," was once king of the ABC network with his number one series "Home Improvement," and the network is clearly betting on another mega-hit from the television vet.
Banking on a TV vet has its advantages; there is a proven track record and a built in fan base, but many vets have also tried and failed, unable to break out of the shadow of the characters that made them a success, in the first place. So can the tool man deliver? Only time and a series pick-up will tell.
As one of the many victims of Ricky Gervais's jokes at the Golden Globes, Tim Allen has been given a shot to prove Gervais's jabs wrong. Hopefully, he will have the sense to keep up with the times and "retool" his humor for today's modern audiences and not just give us a re-hash of the 1990s.
What do you think of Tim Allen's return to television? Does it sound like a show you'd like to watch?
