Fast Five stormed into the box office this weekend and became the first big blockbuster film of 2011. Before the film was even released, plans for the next film in the franchise were already discussed. However, the film needed to do well for those plans to move forward. With an over $80 million box office take in its first weekend, Fast and Furious 6 is almost destined to be made.
According to On The Red Carpet, Paul Walker, the actor behind Brian O'Connor, said the following about the film being made: "At the end of the day the fans decide whether or not we come back." It appears the fans have spoken by going to the theater this weekend. However, what is the potential plot of the next film going to be about? A secret scene at the end of the film that plays following the end credits could offer fans a clue about Fast and Furious 6. Stop reading now if you don't want to find out!
In this scene, Luke Hobbs brought a file on a new hijacking made by cars. When it is revealed not to be the work of Toretto, (played by Vin Diesel) he isn't interested, but the other agent pushes him to look at the file. When he does, he finds that the heist was pulled off by Letty, the character played by Michelle Rodriguez that was killed in the fourth film of the franchise, Fast & Furious. Could she still be alive? The character's return and reunion with Dominic, Brian, and Mia could be interesting to see, especially since Dominic has moved on with someone else romantically. Now it is possible the next film will have no connection to this bonus scene, but why show it then?
With Fast & Furious 6 already in the talking stages, fans should look forward to that film hitting the box office in the next year or two. With the success of Fast Five, the franchise looks set to continue.
