Mariska Hargitay has always been an integral part of Law & Order: SVU, but 13 seasons is a long time. While the lead female detective has inked a deal with NBC for the upcoming 13th season, she won't be involved in every single episode.
Rather, TVLine is reporting that Hargitay's character is going to be promoted to supervisor and another female detective is going to take the lead. And now it's being reported that none other than the Ghost Whisperer, Jennifer Love Hewitt, is the chosen one.
Hewitt? As a police detective looking into unsolved rape and sexual abuse cases on Law & Order: SVU? It's hard to picture her as anything but a doe-eyed emotional woman who can see ghosts and who is well-skilled in looking scared. Hargitay's Olivia exudes strength, and whoever follows in her footsteps needs to have that same resilience. It's hard to imagine Hewitt fitting that role.
Plus, Hewitt has already been on Law & Order: SVU as Vicki Sayers, a rape victim.
Yet, NBC hasn't officially made a decision about Hewitt. But one thing is for sure; the network approved Hargitay's request to scale back her work hours. Lucky for her, she's still getting $385,000 per episode anyway.
What do you think of Jennifer Love Hewitt possibly stepping into an Olivia-esque role? If she does take the job, she'll definitely have some big shoes to fill.
