Supernatural will be returning with new episodes September 23, and with production beginning very soon, some tidbits about the upcoming season are starting to drop--including some information about an early episode of season 7.
Season 7 episode 3 title revealed!
It sounds like fans should get ready for some more flashbacks, as the third episode of the new season will be titled, "The Girl Next Door," and feature flashbacks to when Sam was 15. SpoilerTV has some bits of information about the episode (and casting): "A young girl called Amy is being cast for the episode who will appear in flashbacks of Sam. Sam saved her from being bullied when they were 15 years old. Later, she saves Sam's life and is disappointed when he won't leave town with her. In the present Amy is in her late 20s and has settled down with a job, a mortgage and an 11 year old son and is very surprised to see Sam again. Also being cast is a possible recurring 'terrifying hit man' in his 30s/40s who is described as 'scary like Javier Bardem in No Country For Old Men'."
Does this mean Colin Ford will be returning to Supernatural for the flashbacks? Ford has done extremely well in the four episodes he has been in, and he played a 13-year-old Sam in "Dark Side of the Moon" as part of Dean's memory in heaven and in "After School Special" when they had flashbacks after returning to an old high school for a case. It would fit for him to play the 15-year-old Sam as well. Will the flashbacks feature a younger Dean as well? Could Brock Kelly be returning too? Perhaps the flashbacks will only feature Sam and Amy, so that won't come into play. "After School Special" did show a younger Sam standing up for himself against a bully, so Sam stepping in to defend a young girl in the upcoming Supernatural episode fits right into that. It does seem a bit reminiscent of the season 3 episode, "The Kids Are Alright," when Dean saw Lisa again, but at least this one doesn't seem like it will have, "is this my son?" since the timelines don't match up.
The most recent information released puts this as the episode Jensen Ackles will be directing (and therefore filming first), so it sounds like it's setting it up to be an episode light on Dean and heavier on other characters. When Ackles directed last season, "Weekend at Bobby's" was all about Bobby Singer, and it sounds like this time around, the episode is all about Sam. However, there are still some questions. Will the situation with new God Castiel be resolved by then or just put on the back-burner for a week or so? Will the "terrifying hit man" be working for Castiel or somehow involved with the big evil of the season if that turns out not to be Cas? Will Castiel's arc play out over the season? How and when will the season begin? Will there be a time jump like there was between seasons 5 and 6?
What do you think of what has been released so far about the third episode of Supernatural season 7?
