CBS has released their schedule of fall premiere dates, and among them is the premiere date for Criminal Minds season 7. The sixth season ended with JJ coming back to where she belongs and rejoining the BAU team, and now they just have to get Prentiss back.
When will the BAU family be back together?
The profilers will be back on television for new episodes beginning on Wednesday, September 21, at 9PM with its season 7 premiere. Last season had a very different feel to it with AJ Cook's JJ leaving after the second episode and Paget Brewster's Prentiss being "killed off" in "Lauren." The rest of the team believed her to be dead while JJ and Hotch knew the truth as she went into hiding. Though it did allow for a strong arc involving Prentiss' past and Ian Doyle, it did end with Prentiss having to go underground to ensure her (and her team's) continued safety since Doyle found out his son is alive.
Criminal Minds season 7 will feature the team back together, as the sixth season ended with JJ paying Rossi a visit to tell him she thought about what they discussed and she would be rejoining the BAU. For a while it was uncertain if Thomas Gibson would be back as he was busy negotiating a contract, but that was finally taken care of. Everyone is on board for season 7, except for Rachel Nichols, who joined as Ashley Seaver in the middle of the season. Unfortunately she didn't get such a good reception from the fans since many saw her as replacing AJ Cook's JJ. If the character had been introduced in another way and not amidst the other changes, who knows how things may have turned out.
When the series picks up, they're going to have to once again prove they're necessary after the budget cuts in the FBI Hotch mentioned in the season 6 finale. First on their agenda, however, will be getting Prentiss back where she belongs - and safely - meaning they're going to have to find and take down Ian Doyle once and for all.
Are you glad that the BAU team will be back together for Criminal Minds season 7? What do you want to see happen next year?
