So You Think You Can Dance 2011 continued July 20 as the top 10 hopefuls took their first turns of season 8 on the well-toned arms of all-stars. Season 4 runner-up Stephen "Twitch" Boss returned to pound the stage alongside finalist Sasha Mallory. How'd they fare? Read on for the details.
Sasha --who was previously paired with the dismissed contestant Alex Fost-- and her first SYTYCD all-star met up to learn a Christopher Scott hip-hop routine. The pair were charged with protraying a couple attempting to rekindle their fire for one another over the breakfast table. Literally. Sasha got into the mood right away, knocking dishes to the floor and impressing Twitch with her intensity.
Set to the slow, soulful stylings of Dorothy Moore's "Misty Blue," the routine oozed with sensuality. They were absolutely on fire from Sasha's first slide across the table to their concluding embrace, never missing so much as a beat. It was a smoldering representation of rediscovering love.
The So You Think You Can Dance judges were blown away by the dance. Nigel Lythgoe was rendered speechless for a moment before he finally lamented, "All I got for breakfast this morning was cornflakes," and called the number "a very memorable routine." He said it was the first time he'd seen Sasha have chemistry with a partner, and praised her for "nailing" the routine despite her contemporary roots. Guest judge Neil Patrick Harris called it not only the evening's best routine, but "spectacular" and said he hoped they'd perform it on tour. Mary Murphy called it "smokin' hot" and proclaimed Sasha an all-star.
On the heels of such an acclaimed performance and thanks to her amazing chemistry with Twitch, Sasha Mallory should glide into the top 8 on So You Think You Can Dance 2011. But you never can be sure what will happen when America votes. Tune in to the results show at 8 PM on Thursday to find out if she makes it through.
