This has been an excellent year for hip hop artist Nicki Minaj. The star has had several chart-topping singles and a platinum album. Now, Nicki Minaj is able to add VMAs winner to her long list of distinction.
That's right, Nicki Minaj came away with the award for "Best Hip Hop Music Video" at the MTV Video Music Awards. The designation was given to her "Superbass" music video, beating out both Lil Wayne and Kanye West. Although Lil Wayne and Kanye West are both talented artists, Nicki Minaj definitely deserved the VMAs' hip hop crown this year.
Although Minaj was nominated for three awards-Best Female, Best Collaboration and Best Hip Hop-she only won the Best Hip Hop round. Still, that amounts to a major success in the eyes of the break-out star. When asked in a pre-show interview which award she wanted to win most of all, she replied, "I'd like to win Best Hip-Hop Video...but they're all important. And I'd be honored to win either. I'm honored just to be nominated."
If truth be told, it is MTV that should be honored to have such a talented young rapper on stage for the VMAs. If the newly released music video for the song "Fly" is any indication, Minaj will certainly be making a return trip to the MTV stage next year.
