Apparently Bravo execs have been busy cleaning house for the upcoming season of The Real Housewives of New York. Not only is Cindy Barshop not coming back next season, but Jill, Alex and Kelly are out as well.
Fans knew months ago that Cindy would not be a part of the cast of the next season of RHONYC. However, in a shocking move, Bravo informed Jill Zarin, Alex McCord and Kelly Bensimon this morning that they won't return for Season 5...unless their three new replacements do not work out. Jill, Alex nor Kelly had any idea they were not coming back, but LuAnn de Lesseps did let it slip in an interview yesterday that three new cast members will be a part of the upcoming season.
It's interesting to note that LuAnn and Ramona Singer will be the only two original cast members to remain and Sonja Morgan still has a spot on the cast. While it's clear why Kelly is thankfully not returning to the show, it's less clear why Ramona, who is as much an instigator as Jill, will remain while Jill will not since both women seem to have become "the stars" of the show after Bethenny Frankel's departure. Ramona and Jill together seems to bring a certain dynamic to the show, but apparently not enough to outweigh the liability of having Jill remain as a part of the cast.
Although likeable, it's not surprising that Alex, who only recently found her "voice," will not return next season. Without inserting herself into the drama of the other Real Housewives of New York, she just doesn't fit in with that crowd (which is not a bad thing).
What do you think of the latest developments for the cast of The Real Housewives of New York? Are you surprised that Jill Zarin, Alex McCord and Kelly Bensimon were not asked to return next season? Let us know your thoughts!
