The survivors are currently staying at Hershel's farm, and they certainly wish that could be a permanent thing, but the host himself isn't so keen on the idea. Is there a reason why he turned down Rick's offer to set up closer to the barn and away from the house?
The Walking Dead season 2 episode 5 "Chupacabra" spoilers?
Robert Kirkman has revealed to the TVGuide that there's a reason why Hershel told Rick not to move closer to the barn: "It seems like he's definitely hiding something in there. There might be some hints as to what's in the barn in the comic book series." Whatever Hershel's keeping in the barn, it's best for Rick to leave it alone, considering they're already just staying there because he's letting them. Rick has begged him to let them stay, and he's considering it—but only if they abide by his rules. Since they don't want to be back out there without a seemingly safe place to stay, it seems in their best interests to let Hershel set the boundaries. However, this can all end if Hershel finds out about Glenn and Maggie. In fact, in the Walking Dead sneak peek of "Chupacabra," Dale warns Glenn to keep it a secret from their host. To make things worse for Glenn, the photo for the episode on AMC's site shows him with a flashlight in what appears to be a barn. Will he be the one to stumble upon what Hershel's keeping in there in the next episode? That's really not a way to get on Hershel's good side, especially since Glenn definitely seems interested in hooking up with Maggie again.
