X Factor contestant Rachel Crow has had a lot of publicity this week, a lot of it stemming from her roots as a crack baby and how she still grew up overcoming any obstacles that would possibly have cropped up because of these circumstances.
Well, this is one contender who really does know how to reach for the stars. And since the prize for winning the American version of X Factor is five million dollars, those are some pretty bright stars in the form of big bucks.
As a way to show her prowess on the stage, Rachel Crow performed "If I'd Rather Go Blind" from the film Cadillac Records--appropriate since tonight is movie night on X Factor.
The 13-year-old did a bang up job with the material. She was backed by a vigorous horn section and she was set up with an old school mic through which to croon. Not only that, but this week, instead of Simon Cowell choosing this frontrunner's material, it was Rachel Crow herself who picked the song. And she owned it.
L.A. Reid was duly impressed, calling this X Factor performance Rachel Crow's best. Nicole Scherzinger is thrilled with how much soul is packed into this tiny contestant and Paula Abdul likes how authentic Crow is on the stage.
As for Simon Cowell?
Well this usually harsh judge turns to mush when Rachel Crow crows. He really adores the singer who he said was like a miniature Beyoncé with her most current offering on the ABC talent show.
So what do you think? Is the X Factor the right place for the talent of Ms. Rachel Crow? Do you think this crooner did better tonight than she did last week (see a critique here)? Do you believe that this young of a contestant has the ability to pull off the big win? If not, then who? Please weigh in.
