The X Factor USA 2011 resumed November 30 on FOX as the seven remaining finalists each tackled a different iconic tune by the late, great Michael Jackson. Burrito maker Josh Krajcik, Over 30s mentor Nicole Scherzinger's final remaining act in the competition, opened the night's action with an amped up performance that drew fire from Simon Cowell.
During the pre-taped segment, Josh called Jackson "the coolest" but worried that singing one of his tunes represented too much of a departure from his normal mode. Even with his trusty guitar in hand, Josh struggled with nerves as he rehearsed.
When Josh finally hit the X Factor USA stage with the somewhat lesser-known track "Dirty Diana," he appeared to have his nerves in better check, but it wasn't his best offering of the season. He was surrounded by a herd of dancers and the bright flashing lights and general air of chaos didn't do much to enhance his usually strong vocal stylings. Boys group mentor L.A. Reid noted that it was the first time Josh had stepped out of his comfort zone and praised him for landing "on his feet." Former groups mentor Paula Abdul called it "a show-stopping performance" and encouraged America to vote. Girls group head honcho Simon enjoyed the spectacle of the production, but called Josh himself "overproduced." He thought it was his weakest performance. Nicole differed with her colleague, calling Josh's performance "bold" and different.
Will Josh Krajcik survive to sing again during next week's episode of The X Factor USA 2011? Find out during the December 1 results show, when two more acts are sent packing and the final 5 survivors are revealed.
