How I Met Your Mother is going to see two characters becoming parents in the present, and there are now some spoilers out about what to expect this season as Marshall and Lily get ready to have their baby.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Marshall and Lily will be feeling the fact that they are soon going to be parents. Executive producer Carter Bays has revealed, "We're going to see her work out a few demons on her way to becoming a mom and see them as a couple working things out. It's no surprise where this story is headed — with a trip to the hospital — but, maybe along the way, we're going to see them going through some stuff before they step up to the plate and become ready to be mom and dad." They are getting ready for this, including working on the nursery, and it is possible that Marshall's listing possible things to watch out for that will take their baby (though it's a crazy list and very possibly something else) in the How I Met Your Mother "Tailgate" promo (here). With Marshall heading to spend some quality time with and honor the memory of his father in that episode, airing January 2, he could also be thinking about the fact that he's going to be a father soon too and that his child isn't going to have the chance to get to know his father.
Lily's father is also going to be returning. Could she be considering her relationship with him as she gets ready to become a mother? There's no question that they'll be great parents, but it is still a journey to get there, and a large part of that journey is getting ready for when the day comes that she goes into labor. How will they handle that when the time comes? Since this is a comedy, it wouldn't be surprising for some mishaps to occur on the way to the hospital and even at the hospital, but at the end of the day, they will be great parents, and this season offers viewers a chance to see how they grow into those people.
