Shameless season 2 has begun airing already, and it has continued the trend of showing Lip's smarts as he also continues to run a not-so-family friendly business out of an ice cream truck with Kev.
Season 2 spoilers about Lip
Lip is pretty smart—and now helping his brother study to help him reach his future goals—but what does that mean for his future? According to TVLine, the rest of the Gallaghers will "pressure" him to "go to school and make something of himself." However, Jeremy Allen White does say, "I think the conflict there is Lip really wants to be one of the working class, one of the neighborhood. He loves it there. So there's tension with Lip and the family." There's also the fact that Karen is part of that neighborhood, and he's in no way ready to just let her go. If he were to leave, it's likely that would be over for good. However, things aren't looking good for him there, especially since the synopses have been released for future episodes, and they reveal that things are getting very serious for her and Jody.
Besides, other than his smarts, Lip fits right in with this neighborhood. While he could obviously hold himself in school and among the upper class intellectually, Lip is part of the Gallagher family, and really, on Shameless, no one's getting out of that neighborhood anytime soon and it's hard to imagine that happening.
