With global box-office exceeding $ 2.5 billion, Twilight number 6 was always going to be on the table. The unprecedented success of the Twilight Saga franchise, Breaking Dawn Part 1 in particular, has meant speculation (led by Lionsgate) that a TV series following the character arcs of Jacob Black, Renesmee Cullen, and the Denalis among others, remained more than a strong possibility. Now, an even more definite showing of Lionsgate's intentions has surfaced today.
While many Twilight Saga fans are split about whether or not they would support further movies without the presence of its massively popular leads—Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart—Lionsgate and Summit Entertainment believe fans would support more movies if they were based on a Stephenie Meyer book. Today, Rob Freidman, co-chairman of Lionsgate Studio, said, "If she (Meyer) wishes to do it, we'll be there to support her."
With Breaking Dawn Part 1 making back over $ 700 million in ticket receipts, and hunger for the DVD/Blu ray release of BD1 this weekend attracting enormous interest, anticipated box-office for Breaking Dawn Part 2 is realistically huge. All of which, of course, only makes the likelihood of more sequels (or prequels) more irresistible to Lionsgate.
Today it was also confirmed that the trailer for Breaking Dawn Part 2 will play in theaters before screenings of the highly anticipated The Hunger Games when it debuts on March 23.
Over to you Stephenie Meyer?
