American Idol always leads to some interesting song choices, and tonight several guys chose songs by female artists. While it's easy for girls to raise the key, lowering it can change a song completely. However, Colton Dixon, Creighton Fraker, Eben Franckewitz were among the guys who attempted this. Colton played piano to a Paramore song, "Decode," and ended up dancing on the piano. That was certainly unexpected. That plus being this season's rocker guy, despite not being a guitarist could help him go far. Creighton Fraker sang "True Colors" by Cyndi Lauper, but showed some weaknesses despite being likeable. Eben Franckewitz sang Adele's "Set Fire to the Rain," which is a very tall order. He might remind Gleeks of Chris Colfer; however, the song was too big for him. He's young and cute though, which counts for a lot, ask Bieber.
As for guys that had more success with female songs on American Idol, Adam Brock sang "Think" by Aretha Franklin. Very unexpected, but solid vocal. He gave a shout out to his home city of Pittsburgh, with a Terrible Towel on stage. Joshua Ledet belted out a Jennifer Hudson song, "You Pulled Me Through"—interesting choice. His voice is great, but this is not as strong of a season as one would expect from the hype. These guys definitely had success with songs by divas, though. Also, the guys had to contended with a surprise addition for American Idol. Wild cards already?
