One Direction rocked the plaza on Today this morning, and it should be obvious from the sheer amount of fans and screaming that Directioners are the new Beliebers.
The British boy band arrived at Rockefeller Center in style, waving to their adoring fans from atop a double-decker bus. The two halves of "Larry Stylinson" rocked their signature looks - Harry Styles was looking like Mick Jagger's long-lost son with his shaggy mane and one of his crested coats, while Louis Tomlinson seems determined to bring suspenders back in style. And of course Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, and Liam Payne looked adorable, too.
The guys' British invasion looks like it's turning into a big success, because the plaza was packed with screaming girls singing along with their songs. And according to Hollywood Life, One Direction's fans are proving to be just as faithful as Justin Bieber's Beliebers - some girls from Philadelphia got up at one o'clock in the morning to make the drive to the Today show, and they'd been waiting in the plaza to see 1D since four o'clock. And of course there were some fans who admitted to skipping school to see the guys perform.
The boy band has been doing a great job of spreading the One Direction infection in America - they've guest-starred on iCarly; toured with Big Time Rush; and landed on the U.S. Billboard charts. And their Today performance won't be the only time they'll get to visit Rockefeller Center - they'll be back at "30 Rock" on April 7 to appear on SNL.
1D came to be on the British version of The X Factor - Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, and Liam Payne were competing individually when Simon Cowell made the brilliant decision to turn them into a band. They've gotten so big since then that Justin Bieber's manager Scooter Braun is even hoping to get a piece of them by having them collaborate with the Biebs someday.
You can check out the guys performing "What Makes You Beautiful" on Today below. So do you think that they'll be as big as the Biebs, or will Beliebers turn their noses up at 1D?
