It could be bad news for all fans of The X Factor. Simon Cowell, creator and producer of the show, as well as former judge, is considering axing the hit show as viewing figures have continued to drop. In spite of his attempts to refresh the show and draw in viewers, other prime time shows are overtaking in the ratings and viewing figures.
Last season, Simon introduced three new judges to the panel, attempting to attract a new audience, leaving only Louis Walsh as one of the original judges. The new line-up included Kelly Rowland, Gary Barlow, and Tulisa Contostavlos. However, the panel failed to dazzle the British public.
Simon left the show to concentrate on the US version of the talent contest. So what has Cowell had to say on the subject?
At the launch of this year's series of Britain's Got Talent, Cowell said, "[I would rather the show] fall off the cliff on Ânumbers than deteriorate slowly. That is like death from a thousand cuts. Now maybe that might mean with The X Factor we'd say in a year's time: 'Right, that's the end of it. Let's start something new.' We have got something in development which could replace it if we get to that point. Most things in music, fashion, or TV tend to be across a 10-year period. The great test of success is if you can transcend a decade. I believe we can do it again if we're prepared to be brave."
It sounds like Simon has something in the pipe line then, but Simon being Simon, he will be keeping it under wraps for now, with the public being held in anticipation for his next venture. Considering the many shows that Simon Cowell has involvement with, it will undoubtedly be a success.
