Green Bay Packers wide receiver Donald Driver began his tenure on Dancing with the Stars 2012 last Monday with a provocative Cha Cha Cha that earned decent marks and mostly good comments from judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Len Goodman and Bruno Tonioli. Will Driver and partner Peta Murgatroyd, who returns to DWTS for only her second season as a pro, be able to surpass their debut mark of 21 points and survive the first elimination of season 14?
It's always hard to say, but historically, NFL players have done extremely well on the show, with Emmitt Smith and Hines Ward counting themselves among the elite ranks of Mirrorball Trophy winners. Driver proved that he has some dancing chops last week, so it's fair to guess that barring a massive meltdown in the ballroom, he and Murgatroyd should stick around longer.
The next hurdle in their path to Mirrorball glory is the Quickstep. The fast-moving, form-intensive Quickstep is a sharp departure from the Cha Cha Cha, and it'll be interesting to see how Driver fares with a different dance style. It'll also be entertaining to see how he copes with dancing in hold.
For his part, Driver seems pleased with his chances. He's tweeted confidence over his progress to fans, claiming "We are killing the Quickstep. Can't wait!!!!!!" But is it overconfidence, or are his claims legit?
Tune in to Dancing with the Stars 2012 week 2 tomorrow at 8 p.m. ET/PT to see if Donald Driver will pull off an impressive Quickstep and continue the legend of NFL DWTS greatness.
