Naomi Wolf is suggesting a Katy Perry boycott. Before figuring out why the boycott is being pushed, who is Naomi Wolf?
Many may know her an as activist, feminist and the author of "The Beauty Myth". Why would she be putting down another woman in the spotlight? It appears Wolf is not too keen on Perry's video for 'Part of Me'.
Perry's video features the singer as a new recruit for the U.S. Marines while singing along to her passionate lyrics. Nothing overly shocking, but in fact a reality for many men and women.
Taking to Facebook, Wolf posted this message for her fans.
"I really want to find out if she was paid by them for making it . . . it is truly shameful. I would suggest a boycott of this singer whom I really liked—if you are as offended at this glorification of violence as I am."
Katy Perry, however, has her own opinion about the boycott. Perry states rather than a glorification of violence, the video and scenes of 'Part of Me' is "affirmation of strength." Perry also explained that she shot the music video on a military base as she wanted to portray it this way.
How does this video hit you? Is it a glorification of violence? Can it be taken as an affirmation of strength? It all depends on each person and their unique opinions. Watch it below and decide for yourself if a Katy Perry boycott is in fact legitimate. All that Ms. Wolf may have done is draw attention to the video to begin with.
