The Killing season 2 continues with episode 3, "Numb." If you've been wondering where Mitch is, she's driving and smoking, noticing a hitchhiker, and staying at a motel.
Day Sixteen
Sarah's certain the casino's the abduction site and is still working on a warrant. She asks Ray about the tattoo, which isn't a Beau Soleil type, and finds out that Carlson seems to have held up her warrant for the client list. That leads to her confronting her new Lieutenant. Where's Holder during this? He's outside the NA meeting, but he doesn't go in.
Stan only tells Terry he "worked it out" and his sons should go to school. Sarah stops by to ask him about the tattoo, but he's not willing to cooperate and asks for Rosie's backpack back. When she calls Jeff about it, she finds out it's gone.
Richmond's convinced he felt the sun on his legs and wants to start rehab. Though the doctor is skeptic, he says he'll send the neurologist by. Holder stops his nephew on his way to school and offers him a ride, but he tells him he's not supposed to, and Holder sends him on his way. Terry walks the kids to school and notices a creepy man outside. Sarah confronts Oakes about the backpack and refuses to leave without it. She opens it up at her car.
Richmond and Jamie watch a broadcast of Adams talking about the Waterfront Project. Richmond has refused morphine because he thinks it's clouding the feeling, but he's obviously in pain. Mitch drinks at the bar and ignores a call from Terry. Stan defends Mitch, saying she's unhappy, but as Terry points out, who's happy now?
Sarah leaves Holder a message to let him know she knows what he did with the backpack as she continues to watch the video of Rosie. She finds out Beau Soleil was torched in a fire, but when she gets there, there are no signs of the computers. She notices security cameras and asks for the tapes. When Stan picks up his kids, he finds out "his friend" stopped by, and he confronts Janek to tell him to stay away from his sons. After he tells him about Beau Soleil, Janek says he just wanted to meet his kids.
Holder stops by to see Tyler, who wants to know why he's there if he's not buying. He resists temptation and instead begins hitting him. When his mother intervenes, Holder knocks her back, grabs a bag and leaves. The neurologist tests Richmond for feeling in his legs, but he doesn't feel anything...except for the time when he doesn't touch his foot—that, he feels. Poor Richmond. He wants to get back on his feet so badly. Once he leaves, Richmond tells Jamie they need to get to work on the campaign. Gwen's father finds her packing up the office, and she tells him she wants to move on—to D.C. He takes out his phone. The Senator she wants to work for has been after her for years. Mitch is in a room with a guy from the bar—and going by "Anna"—and he can tell something's up. She tells him to stay and kisses him.
The Killing Investigation Continues
Sarah talks to Ray about the Beau Soleil footage and tells him Carlson doesn't need to know and to have Holder call her. After she hangs up, Jack asks if everything's okay with Holder. He recognizes the tattoo character and tells Sarah that he's avenging his father. When the nurse stops by to change his catheter, Richmond protests that he didn't even feel it. She tells him he'll get used to it. Holder may not have gone to the NA meeting, but that doesn't mean he can't hook up with one of the other addicts in his car, and unsurprisingly, she asks if he has anything.
Sarah begins doing research into the Japanese character, while Janek tells Stan he didn't find any record of Rosie in Beau Soleil, only Russian girls. He tells him Rosie was alive when the car went into the water and he should kill whoever did it, leaving an envelope behind.
Ray sends Sarah the video from the cameras, leaving Jack to finish dinner. One of the cameras picked up a Larsen truck at Beau Soleil—and the driver has the manga tattoo on his arm. She gets a call that Holder's acting crazy, leading to her going to find him in the middle of the road. She tells him she knows what he did, and he joins her on the side of the street.
Richmond stabs himself in the leg with one of his pins. Mitch sees a girl standing at the motel pool, and once she turns around, closes the drapes. The Beau Soleil files are being deleted in the back of Janek's place. That same driver backs the van out of Stan's. Holder shows Sarah Rosie's backpack.
