Injuries and surprises reigned this week on 'Dancing With the Stars'. Maria Menounos danced with a broken foot; Melissa Gilbert got sent to the hospital and a new celebrity soared to the top of the leaderboard.
Donald Driver and Peeta Murgatroyd
The football legend used a Jimmy Hendrix song to channel the anger for an impressive Paso Doble with partner Peeta. Dressed in black and purple, the couple looked fierce as they delivered an aggressive Paso.
Judge Bruno Tonioli told Donald he had "great guns" and that he was "macho, masculine and magnificent". He liked that the dance had power and pride with just a touch of humor.
Carrie Ann Inaba called the dance "sexy" and "raunchy". She loved it and predicted it would one of the most memorable moments of the season.
Head Judge, Len Goodman, said he usually didn't get turned on by a man without a shirt but that Driver didn't hold anything back. He called it the footballer's best dance so far.
With a set of nine's across the board, Donald and Peeta scored 27. That was the highest score of the night. It was Driver's first trip to the top of the leaderboard.
Roshon Fegan and Chelsie Hightower
The dance's pre-package showed a sensitive side to the Disney star. It also showed the sweet relationship that's grown between Fegan and his partner. But by the time it was time to dance, all self-doubt was gone as Roshon glided across the floor in a beautiful Viennese waltz. Dressed in pink and black, the duo danced to "Time of My Life". It was soft, sweet and romantic.
Bruno said Fegan soared so high he could touch the sky. It said the dance "flowed beautifully" and was "elegant" and "romantic". He also complimented Roshon on his extensions.
Carrie Ann said the dance was "cute" like the end of Disney movie. She also told Roshon that he was the best dancer among the male competition.
Len said "good job dog". He went to add that the dance had "style and panache". He also loved the great rotation.
The couple scored nine's from Carrie Ann and Bruno. Len gave them an eight for a total of 26 points. That put them in second place.
Maria Menounos and Derek Hough
In the dance pre-package viewers learned that in addition to her broken ribs, Maria was also dancing with a broken foot. Determined not to let it her hamper, she pushed on to deliver a sexy, sultry and polished tango.
Maria entered the ballroom dressed in a Catholic schoolgirl uniform, but it was quickly ripped away to show a sexy black gown beneath. That's when the duo began dancing to "School's Out".
The dance was sadly only semi-precise. It was elegant, but lacked a bit of sharpness.
Carrie Ann said she loved the chemistry between Maria and Derek. She said she couldn't take her eyes off their every move.
Len reminded them that the tango required aggression and control. However, he felt it lacked a bit of the latter. Still, he called it "pretty good" and said Maria had great posture.
Bruno said Maria had "beauty and attitude." He liked the performance.
The duo also scored two eight's and one nine for a total of 26. That put them in a tie for second place with Roshon and Chelsie.
As a side note, Melissa Gilbert's injury was to her head; not her back. She got checked out at the hospital and declared "fine". She'll dance next week.
