The CW has released the official description of the Vampire Diaries season 3 finale, "The Departed," and there are more spoilers out now that a promotional photo has also been released.

TV Guide has a "The Departed" photo showing Damon and Rebekah obviously surprised and looking at least a bit scared about whatever it is they're looking at. What's going to be bringing them together on the same side after the whole torture business? It must be something big, and you have to wonder what this means for everyone's future. TV Guide suggests Esther, Klaus, and evil Alaric, and all three are certainly possibilities, but could it be someone else?
Spoilers have revealed that Stefan and Damon will be leaving Mystic Falls together to do something and Elena will call one of them back. Will it be Stefan who returns to help Elena while Damon ends up with Rebekah somehow? Could it be Damon whom Elena calls and amidst helping her out he ends up with Rebekah in this situation in the photo?
The Vampire Diaries season 3 finale is set to feature some big decisions, ones that will have consequences that are sure to stretch into the fourth season, and it's possible part of that is what's going on in this scene. Will Rebekah make it to the fourth season, or could she be in trouble with whatever she and Damon are facing? Will this be part of a cliffhanger ending the season?
