The Vampire Diaries season 3 just showed a Damon and Elena kiss in episode 19, "Heart of Darkness," and has Elena going with Stefan to the dance in episode 20, "Do Not Go Gentle." So what's coming up for the love triangle by season's end?

According to TVLine, executive producer Julie Plec has said "confusion" is "the key word...for Elena." She needs to figure out what she feels for each of them, and spending time with one and then the other does seem to be a pretty good way for her to do that. This is all leading up to her making a choice, and Plec says "the big thing with her choice is she's not the one in complete control of it." This is "really a decision about what does love mean to me and to us and where are we supposed to be in our lives with each other." It does seem about time for her to make that decision, and considering everything that's happened between her and each vampire, it would be surprising if she wasn't confused. What will her decision mean for everyone in season 4?
Speaking of the Delena kiss in The Vampire Diaries' "Heart of Darkness", Plec did say "she's not going to be deceitful or lie about it or keep it secret." So could she clue Stefan in before asking him to be her date to the Decade Dance? That may be an awkward conversation, but it is one they need to have—especially if she ends up choosing Stefan. These three need to be honest with one another, and it seems like that's happening right now if Elena's not going to be keeping the kiss a secret. Jeremy wasn't happy when he saw the kiss, but Rose's words—that while Stefan's good for Elena, Damon's the best or worst thing for her—did seem to make him reconsider. How will everyone else react when they find out about the kiss? Will Stefan just point out that he wanted Elena to explore her feelings for Damon, or is he going to take it to mean that he could lose her to his brother?
But what about the Salvatore brothers in all of this? Plec does say that they'll talk about in the penultimate episode of the season, "Before Sunset": "It's actually a really introspective, nice and emotional moment between the brothers. It's a scene I really like, and I think other people might like it too." Almost every scene with Damon and Stefan is a pretty strong scene, so it sounds like this is one to look forward to—especially considering what they'll be talking about. Whatever happens with Elena, you just have to hope there will still be more Salvatore brother scenes to come. Season finale spoilers have revealed that they'll leave town together only for Elena to call one of them back; will that lead to a conversation where they assume the one she calls back could be her choice?
