NCIS season 9 continues next week with episode 22, "Playing With Fire," which will address something from the previous episode and bring back a character fans will recognize from season 2.
Season 9 Episode 22 "Playing With Fire" Promo
"The NCIS investigation of a fire on a Navy vessel reveals evidence that elevates security at all U.S. Navy facilities worldwide. Meanwhile, DiNozzo and Ziva travel to Italy when an explosive device is found hidden on a Navy ship."
"Playing With Fire" kicks off the final three episodes of season 9 (but don't worry, of course the series will be back for a 10th season), and it's going to be picking up with a storyline that "Rekindled" (recap here) began. That episode ended with an explosion that started in the Machine Room of the U.S.S. Brewer, and this upcoming episode is going to be about Navy ships being targeted. It's all leading up to the finale as the series focuses back on the Navy, which the show is all about.
In the NCIS season 9 episode 22 promo for "Playing With Fire" (below), Gibbs and Tony are in MTAC ready to check in with McGee, but he's on a ship and his stomach isn't agreeing with his situation. Tony has barf bags on him when he arrives onboard. Gibbs says, "I don't think this is the end of it," but who are they facing? Who's the most wanted terrorist this time around? It looks like all of NCIS is going to be paying attention to this case, and the promo ends with Gibbs walking away from NCIS' Most Wanted wall and saying, "Let's go. We got work to do."
How will this case end for the team? There have been teases of a cliffhanger, and anytime there's a cliffhanger on a drama, you have to wonder if anyone's life will be in jeopardy. That's true in this instance. Will "Playing With Fire" provide Gibbs and his team with clues to help them leading up to the season finale, "Till Death Do Us Part"?
