'The Vampire Diaries' Season 3 Spoilers: Esther's Plan, Rebekah's Future

The Vampire Diaries season 3 has seen another possession on this show, this time Rebekah by her mother Esther. What does this mean for Rebekah's future?

According to TV Guide, "now that Esther has the white oak dagger from Alaric's alter ego, she'll leave Rebekah's body and return to her own." That's good news for Rebekah at least, and it's what you expected would happen at some point in the final season 3 episodes considering the photo of Damon and Rebekah that has been released from the season finale, "The Departed." Will Rebekah's experience when she was possessed lead to her teaming up with Damon at least for now because they'll have a common enemy? After all, Rebekah does want to stay alive, so perhaps with her future threatened, that will lead to some different alliances.

However, Esther's going to "reveal that she needs something from both Alaric and Elena to carry out her plan of eliminating her family. And what Esther wants, Esther will get." This happens in The Vampire Diaries season 3 episode 20, "Do Not Go Gentle." Will Esther's plan have anything to do with the clip from the promo (below) that shows Alaric talking to Elena? Alaric's words don't bode well for his future psyche.

Meanwhile, TVLine has reported that Julie Plec has said that this is "a temporary problem" and has more about Esther using Alaric: "What she sees in [his] alter ego is someone who loathes vampires and could be a useful ally in her quest to kill her children. She has big plans for the hunter in him." Will someone else end up dead at Alaric's hand because of his alter ego and Esther's plan for the evil psycho dark side? Could a bloodline be in jeopardy with Esther enlisting Alaric's alter ego to help her? Will Alaric be able to fight what his alter ego could be up to, or will the night end very tragically for some?
