Dancing with the Stars 2012 week 8 was a hot one for telenovela star William Levy, who ended the two-hour episode with a fire hose-worthy Paso Doble alongside partner Cheryl Burke and guest pro Tony Dovolani.
The so-termed Trio Challenge round featured the couples performing a Latin routine while teamed up with an additional pro or DWTS troupe member. Unlike most of the pairs, Cheryl took the "risky" approach and opted to have William dance alongside a like-gendered pro in order to show that he could hold his own with the best.
When the three hit the ballroom together, the effect was a steamy conglomeration of great and not so great. Although William looked like a pro at times, even next to Tony, he didn't always stay with the beat of "Diablo Rojo", and his bum stuck out a little more than it should have.
Carrie Ann Inaba thought William's lines were "incredible" but noted some synch issues. Len Goodman tipped his hat to all three participants, calling the routine "a great mix of steps together and apart". Bruno Tonioli closed out the judges' commentary by praising the performance value, but chiding William for screwing up the timing.
William, Cheryl and Tony earned 27 points for their Trio Challenge Paso Doble. Although Katherine Jenkins and Mark Ballas won round two, William and Cheryl ended the evening atop the leaderboard thanks to a perfect first round score.
