Dancing with the Stars 2012's semifinal round aired May 14 on ABC, and featured another set of terrific routines by the remaining hopefuls. One of the best numbers of the night belonged to telenovela star William Levy and Cheryl Burke, a round two Samba that left judge Bruno Tonioli green with "bum envy."
But before the duo took to the ballroom to perform, viewers got a peek at William's difficult early years in Cuba. He and his siblings grew up very poor, and even after they came to the U.S., life was still "really, really hard." But William persevered, and an early career as a model transformed into a successful acting career, which propelled him to stardom.
At showtime, William and Cheryl danced their Samba to the peppy tune "Magalenha." Although previous weeks featured Cheryl doing most of the actual dancing, William carried his weight well, shaking his hips and moving with like a near-pro. He has really good rhythm, and it showed.
The judges loved it. Bruno was super impressed, and declared that he might "die with bum envy." Carrie Ann Inaba gushed "your bounce was more like a thrust which kind of took it to another level." She thought it was "freakin' amazing." Finally, head judge Len Goodman dubbed William "the hunk with the junk in his trunk."
William and Cheryl's Samba netted them a perfect 30 from the judges, winning round two and placing them in second place on the semifinal leaderboard. They trail only Maria Menounos and Derek Hough entering the elimination show.
