Jennifer Lopez appeared on Ellen yesterday to promote her new movie What to Expect When You're Expecting, and it's not surprising that her gig on American Idol entered the conversation. Lopez perhaps shocked her fans when she revealed that her time with the hit show may soon end.
"I really do enjoy it. Now this is my second year -- I don't know if I can go for a third year," J.Lo said. "I miss doing other things. It really does lock you down, which was nice the first year with the babies being three, but now they're getting more mobile, they're about to go into school ... So I just don't know."
While it's perfectly understandable that there simply may not be time for Idol between touring and motherhood, Jennifer's indecision about returning to the judge's seat comes on the heels of the announcement that Britney Spears will join another one of Simon Cowell's babies X Factor. Spears, who can't even handle her own financial affairs without the approval of her father and fiancée, is reportedly set to make $3 million more than Jennifer Lopez. Ouch!
When J.Lo learned that a woman who lost her kids to drug use and spent time in a psychiatric ward will earn more than her, it had to feel like a slap in the face. Her wavering on whether to return to Idol could be a product of disgust or even a ploy for salary renegotiation. If J.Lo is indeed perturbed about the news, at least she has her successes in other fields and Casper Smart to comfort her.
