The Vampire Diaries season 3 ended with Elena choosing Stefan only to die (then come back) soon after. Now she's transitioning, and of course that's going to mean a lot more drama to come.
Vampire Diaries Season 4 Spoilers
At the CW Upfronts, E! Online talked to the cast of the CW drama about what the finale means going forward and they speculated a bit about what could happen in the fourth season. What is obvious is that the love triangle is going to continue, and Nina Dobrev did say, "It's interesting because does she remember the choice? She hit her head pretty hard and she was in a car accident. There's a lot of different ways it could go." That could lead to a very interesting scenario—would Damon tell her she made her choice? He knows, but Stefan does not. However, since it has been revealed that Stefan and Elena will be together at least for a bit in The Vampire Diaries season 4, it doesn't seem likely that Dobrev's scenario is going to happen. However, even though Elena did choose Stefan, that doesn't mean that the love triangle is just done. In fact, with Elena becoming a vampire, it's likely to heat up even more.
Paul Wesley talked about what he wants to see in season 4: " I'm hoping that Stefan still maintains a glimmer of ripper. I don't want him to become the stereotypical hero again, like season one. I don't want him to become a goody two-shoes. I really want him to maintain a dark side; I want him to be a threat." With Elena transitioning, it's possible that they could use ripper Stefan around for a bit, since they don't know how everyone will react—especially Klaus—to this change. They are going to have to think about what the Council will do, especially since just because Alaric's gone, they're not going to forget what they learned about Caroline and Tyler. If they find out about Elena transitioning, she could be added to that list.
