With the family of Robin Gibb having officially released a statement regarding his death, the Billboard Music Awards paid tribute to the musician Sunday with a moment of silence.
A former member of the popular group The Bee Gees (with brothers Maurice—his twin—and Barry Gibb), Robin made a name for himself in the music industry as the group's lead singer, belting out such hits as "Night Fever" and "Staying Alive."
Gibb was diagnosed with colorectal cancer, and after a long battle, passed away Sunday. The news came not even a half hour into the Billboard Music Awards, when hosts Julie Bowen and Ty Burrell (yep, the parents from Modern Family) paused to inform the audience and allow for a moment of silence out of respect. Surely, had this happened just 24 hours earlier, there would be a full-blown tribute to Robin Gibb.
Rest in peace, Robin. The music industry has lost a great man, and a wonderful talent.
