Last year, Khaled dropped the album "We the Best Forever" which included the smash hit "I'm On One" featuring Drake, Lil Wayne, and Rick Ross. Now, according to an article from Hip Hop DX and the video below featuring Don King, the new album "Kiss the Ring" will arrive on August 21st, making for quite the summer. Hip hop fans are already expecting big albums from Rick Ross, Meek Mill, and MMG, as well as DJ Khaled's latest project. In the new promotional video seen below, Don King notes he's passing it on from "one king to the other" chosen king, DJ Khaled. Don lets everyone know the album is releasing just a day after his birthday, but that August 21st will be even bigger for the world. King also mentions how the spirits are now talking to him, including the late Michael Jackson, who is saying DJ Khaled will bring good music to the present. Definitely an interesting promo from the well known boxing promoter. These days music is regularly downloaded online, so it's going to be interesting to see if this Don King promo shows up on TV or is meant to just go viral online somehow.
As for the cover art, DJ Khaled's "Kiss the Ring" cover art can be seen in the video at VIMEO (explicit). He notes that the art's inspired by such things as "the hustle," "money," "power," and "respect." The cover simply shows Khaled with his head looking down, yet his hand against the side of his head. On full display is an expensive watch, and you guessed it, the ring, ready to be kissed.
It may be a powerful statement to some or just another cover photo to others. Nonetheless, DJ Khaled is hoping for big sales with this latest album. It will remain to be seen if he can somehow duplicate the success of "I'm On One" from 2011 and get another multi-platinum selling single from this latest release. With enough star power on the album, he just might be able to pull it off again!
