Despite the fact that they both love the same girl, Stefan and Damon's relationship was in a positive place when The Vampire Diaries season 3 ended. Will that continue to be the case after Elena chose Stefan and is now transitioning?
Vampire Diaries Season 4 Spoilers
So what will season 4 hold for the Salvatore brothers' relationship? Paul Wesley told TV Guide (below), "It's back and forth. Those brothers have a contentious relationship. I think there's definitely going to be hostility for the rest of the relationship." That said, he wants the series to end with Stefan and Damon "united as...brothers who love each other." They have obviously had their ups and downs, and it wouldn't be quite as entertaining if that didn't continue. Some of the best scenes of the series have been the ones with those two, even when they're disagreeing about how to go about something or on opposite sides. That's something The Vampire Diaries season 4 needs to keep as part of the show, no matter what else is changing—such as Elena becoming a vampire (though that right there is bound to lead to some "hostility").
Though Elena did choose Stefan in the season 3 finale, "The Departed," he doesn't know that as he waits to see what happens next with Elena. Damon does, so that could make for an interesting conversation at one point, especially depending on what changes over the course of the season. After all, Elena is going to be remembering the times Damon has compelled her. What will that mean for the brothers' relationship as the season goes forward? Though it's not looking like season 4 will be the show's last, will it end with Stefan and Damon in a good place like they were at the end of season 3?
