Kris Allen: 'American Idol' Has 'Gone On Too...

American Idol has seen its better days. Fans can all admit that. The series has just crowned its eleventh season winner this week, and now it is time to look ahead to season twelve. Anyway you cut it, twelve years is a long time for any series to be on television, but is this series tired and worn out? According to one former winner, it is time. Is it time for Idol to look toward ending the series?

Kris Allen won season eight with Adam Lambert coming in second to him. He knows a thing or two about this series. There is proof in the numbers that this series might need to change some things or come to an end. This year's finale was the lowest rated finale for the series ever. In fact, the ratings for the series have steadily dropped since the season six finale which featured the win of Jordin Sparks.

Even though it was the lowest-rated finale ever for the series, it was still the most watched episode on television for anything that is aired since the Academy Awards in February. This makes it a mixed bag. Idol can still bring in the viewers for Fox, but other series have come out in the music reality competition arena.

The X Factor, The Voice, and even others are grabbing viewers away from Idol. Fans are liking how they handle things differently. They have ignored Idol judges and their snark about The Voice and still tuned in.

Is American Idol worn out then? It is not the same powerhouse it once was. That is safe to say, but it is still a powerhouse. If Idol wants to keep bringing in the viewers, they might want to make a few more changes in the seasons ahead.

This show lost its appeal at least for me when it chose to overlook real talent for marketability. I have a sense that the winners are picked by the producers’ way in advance and they manipulate the voting to make sure their pick wins.

I never considered the judges doing that, but it does seem to look at who can cell more records than who can really sing.

This article is a bunch of LIES. This author is obviously aiming for more hits on her site. There is nothing in the TMZ video thatn Kris remotely suggested that American Idol should be cancelled. Shamefull irresponsible journalism.

Nowhere did I say the series should be canceled. Is it past its prime? Yes. In the video, Kris did say it has gone on too long when asked about the series' low ratings for the finale. Saying a series is passed its prime is different than saying it should be canceled. The ratings for the finale are not a lie. The proof is in the numbers. Can American Idol bounce back? Is it still the top rated series on Fox? Yes, to both questions. However, it is not the same series it once was. As Juan said above, it does focus more on who can sell records than true talent.

But the headline of your article says Kris Dissed American Idol which he did not. You should post his latest tweet @Krisallen that rejected any notion he said anything negative about American Idol.

Might as well post it here: @KrisAllen: I would hope that people would know I love @AmericanIdol and that I would never say anything negative about the show. Ever. The show has given me an opportunity that I never would have had without it.

I was just about to do that here as well, so thank you. My article is more an editorial on the show and it being passed its prime. He did say it had gone on too long, which could be seen as a diss to the show. That is in the eye of the beholder. The series isn't the same powerhouse it used to be. Has it gone on too long? Maybe. I appreciate your comments. American Idol and its way of handling things is a subject of debate among fans.

Desperate Housewives and House were cancelled due to viewer fatique which is apprarently what's happening with American Idol. What Kris said was a straighforward, fact of the matter answer and would apply to any show that's been on the air too long. There's nothing malicious with what he said. The problem is that glamberts are slamming Kris for being an ungrateful snob.

Kris is apparently bothered by all these innuendos so he issued another tweet just a few minutes ago: @KrisAllen: I would like for everyone to know that I would never say anything that degraded @AmericanIdol. I will always support the show. I will forever be thankful to what it has done for me. I get to make music for a living because of @AmericanIdol. How flippin cool is that?!

I think it is to long and drawn out...There are too many other copy cat shows now... Just like the reality shows... One show makes it, thats a good thing but everyone in Hollywood wants to jump on the winning ticket and ride the bandwagon all the way . Then in return it gets run into the ground... They are all a bunch of copy cats and this ruins it for all of them..
Now, it seems that Idol, is giving the judges a chance to get attention for their works.. whether it is old or new.. Then you have all of those other celebs now singing etc..This show has become a varity show like Ed Sullivan, Ted Mack amateur hour ... and on and on... I also, thought that one performance by that runner up and the other woman who did the duet together was HORRIBLE... Way to much screaming, instead of singing... I thought it was just terrible..You can put emotinons and feelings into songs but then I think there is such a thing as overkill and this was one of them...

Hey! What happened to my earlier comment? I see you've made some changes, yet your information is still incorrect. Kris did not say "it is time." And how is Kris winning over Adam Lambert relevant to this article or topic? It isn't. If you have to mention Kris you can simply say he's the Season 8 winner. Also, where did you get this information? The X Factor, The Voice, and even others are grabbing viewers away from Idol. This statement implies that people are NOT watching Idol but watching those shows instead, yet you have no proof of that. It's likely that a lot of the same people are watching those shows. And your headline is still incorrect. The actual quote is "Maybe it's gone on too long." But again, in an article or "editorial" about numbers attrition, the headline belongs to Idol and not to Kris. You still have some editing to do. Again, I'm sure you see that yourself.

Hellooo Rita....ever heard of Kradam? Real Glamberts love Adam AND Kris because they are the best of friends and ALWAYS support each other. Do you really think Kris wants you dissing Glamberts? Why the paranoid reaction? Kris and Adam are both about support for other musicians and love, laughter and tolerance in a sometimes ugly media world. Take another look at their hug when Kris won Idol. They turned to each other in deep emotional friendship. If you're a Kris Allen fan and can't see the love and joy "your" man radiates, then you're losing out on something beautiful. In fact I came to this site because I already knew the headline was unfair to Kris--and I'm a fanatic Glambert who doesn't like to see his friends mistreated either. If you and I can't stand together, it's a dang shame. Ignore ALL the uglies out there and Throw some love back. We've got plenty for Kris. Adam wouldn't have it any other way and to Glamberts, his word is our word.
