The Vampire Diaries is heading onto new ground for season four. The season will focus on Elena's transition into a vampire. How Elena Gilbert, played by Nina Dobrev, handles her new life will be something fans will see up close once this series returns in the fall. Becoming a vampire is not something Elena wanted though. While Bella Swan practically begged Edward Cullen to turn her in the Twilight Saga, Elena wanted nothing of the sort when it was a way they could save her life.
Now, she had no choice in the matter. Vampire blood flowing through her veins at the time of her death has robbed her of any choice. She is becoming the one thing she never wanted to be. However, she will want to somehow keep her humanity. The struggle for humanity is something Stefan Salvatore, played by Paul Wesley, has dealt with over the last three seasons. Now, Elena will show that struggle from her perspective. Dobrev said the following about Elena's struggle, according to Fanbolt:
"Up until now, that's what she's been struggling to hold on to. Her life is so supernatural, and now, without having a choice, she's going to have to live with it for the rest of her life."
Will Elena be able to handle becoming a vampire? Will it be something she fights against and tries to undo? There has to be some spell Bonnie could use to change things, and the cast has hinted that as a possibility already.
Watching Elena deal with her new life and how it will impact all of those around here will be something to see. Depending on how it is written and how it plays out on screen, it could make or break The Vampire Diaries.
What do think? Are you ready to see Elena's life start over again?
