One Tree Hill ended its run on The CW a couple of months ago, but fans are still getting little bits of information about the end of the series and what could have happened to some of the characters that departed the series. Mark Schwahn was at the ATX Festival over the weekend, and he dished some about Lucas and Peyton, and he also gave fans some ideas about Rachel, formerly played by Danneel Harris-Ackles.
Many fans are wondering what happened to Lucas and Peyton, played by Chad Michael Murray and Hilarie Burton, after they left One Tree Hill. Murray did return briefly during the final episodes of the series, but their lives following their departure Tree Hill was still left up in the area. It is still up in the air though. Schwahn said the following, according to From Inside The Box:
"I don't know if it frustrates people to hear answers like this, but there's no answer that everyone's going to be satisfied with, and I kind of like that idea that, like in real life when someone goes away, they traveled, they left, and you can fill in the blanks. If you loved those characters, you're going to fill in the blanks better than I could. If you hated those characters, you can fill in the blanks in a very satisfying way to fuel your hate!"
Fans wanting their closure for these characters with the series being over might not like his answer at all, but leaving it open-ended does allow the fans to create their own storybook ending for these two.
As for Rachel, Schwahn also spoke about her character and how things might have played out if the series had handled Dan differently:
"I think if Dan had lived, Rachel would've come back and revealed that she never signed the divorce papers. He would have said, 'You have to understand, I'm poor now!' and she would have said, 'Do you think I wasn't embezzling from you all these years? I have a bunch of your money saved up. We'll be fine.' That's how I think of Rachel. She's wily, she's wonderful, she's fine."
Fans are still heartbroken over the departure of this series, but life still goes on in Tree Hill. It is just happening in the minds of the fans instead of one screen now.
