While Daniel Gillies may have a new show—Saving Hope—that doesn't mean that he can't return to The Vampire Diaries. But will he be back as Elijah?
Vampire Diaries Season 4 Spoilers
Elijah has become quite the fan favorite on the series, even though he is an Original, he can't exactly be trusted, and you never know which side he'll be on. Daniel Gillies talked to TV Fanatic about Saving Hope and also discussed his role on Vampire Diaries. He said he's "very lucky" when the reaction the fans have had towards Elijah was brought up. You can't help but want him to show up again even if he's going to end up causing trouble in some way.
The Originals have been entertaining, and with he and Rebekah thinking Klaus dead, there are many directions that can go in, including having Elijah MIA in the beginning of The Vampire Diaries season 4 and then showing up later as a way to make it work for Gillies to do other projects like Saving Hope and continue to recur as Elijah.
But will he be back in season 4? He did tease "the door's always open" for that to happen, adding that "he loves producer Julie Plec and that set just has a 'special energy.'" Fans are certainly hoping that he does return at some point next season, and it does seem likely since he is still alive on the show. There are over 20 episodes for them to bring him back at some point, even if it does end up on the backburner for a while. After all, don't you want to see Elijah's reaction to Elena as a vampire?
