Arie Luyendyk, Jr. is one of The Bachelorette 2012 contestants who go the distance in Emily Maynard's season. A lot has been reported about his romantic involvement with one of the show's producers, Cassie Lambert, a few years ago. What really happened and what does his close gal pal have to say about him?
Kristina Owen spoke with Wetpaint about all the details fans have heard blown "way out of proportion." Kristina has known Arie since they were sophomores in high school.
So, what's the real scoop about Arie and his so-called relationship with Cassie Lambert?
"It was in 2003 so Arie was really young," Kristin said. "She was an Indiana girl and knew a lot about racing. She drank beer and hung with the boys. But Arie told me it was never a relationship. Like I said, I've been one of his best friends for ages and I've never even heard her name until now."
Fans will be surprised to learn that Arie was called to be on The Bachelorette 2012 after producers had everyone they wanted as contestants. Kristina put an application in for him, but initially he wasn't chosen right away. The show contacted him as reference for another race car driver.
Kristina said Arie told producers in a conference call that he wanted to be on the show.
"He said, 'Listen, if you're still looking for people, I'd love to do it.' They asked him if he was serious and he said yes."
A month later Arie got a call and was put on the show.
When it comes to Emily's reaction to Arie's association with Cassie, Kristina said all the reports about Emily basically throwing a fit didn't take place. Arie's friend said "what's been reported isn't what really happened. Not even close."
How far will Arie Luyendyk, Jr. go on The Bachelorette 2012? Kristina said Arie is definitely ready to be with a woman who has children because he's been in that situation before. Will he have everything Emily needs in a soul mate?
