Just a couple of months ago, everything looked all set. The Farrelly brothers were on board to direct, and stars Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels were ready to get stupid again. But now Carrey has bowed out of the sequel to Dumb and Dumber, reports ETOnline. The funnyman who brought Lloyd Christmas to hilariously idiotic life was apparently getting frustrated that New Line and Warner Bros. studios weren't enthusiastic enough about the project.
"I would have thought Dumb and Dumber To was a no-brainer," Carrey said in a statement through his publicist. "After all, it's implied in the title."
So where does that leave things for the sequel to the 1994 hit comedy? It's hard to imagine anyone else filling Jim Carrey's shoes in the role of the bowl-cut-wearing, lovably dim-witted Lloyd. Just take a look, if you dare, at the awful 2003 prequel, Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd. Talk about dumb!
Granted, that movie featured two unknowns as teenage versions of the clueless characters and was also completely unconnected to the Farrelly brothers. But it doesn't take a genius to guess that without Carrey, the sequel will probably fall apart completely. Fans can only hope that someone is smart enough to find a way to lure Carrey back for some more Dumb fun.
