Rookie Blue has become quite the hit over the past few summers, and that will continue next year as well. It's no surprise that renewal came early in the current season yet again.
Season 4 Is a Go: More Rookie Drama
ABC has announced that its summer drama about the officers in 15 Division will be back for a fourth season. It's "currently in development and will move into production in Toronto later this summer." This renewal is no surprise if you look at the numbers. It's "the No. 1 series among Adults 18-49 in Thursday's 10 o'clock hour this summer to date" and "is growing its overall audience by 4% over the comparable telecasts of last summer." That's not all, as it "topped its year-ago premiere by 5%" with the season 3 premiere being "its most-watched telecast since August 2010." It's also "the No. 1 drama on the major networks in Adults 18-49."
There's just something about Rookie Blue. Season 3 has only aired three episodes, with the fourth, "Girls' Night Out," airing this week, but it's still just as good as it was the past two seasons. As long as it keeps doing what it's been doing, there's no reason why the fourth season has to be its last. It could keep going. The summer seems to be a good spot for it, especially since there are so many procedural dramas that air in the fall. That's not to say that it wouldn't do well in the fall, but it has certainly found success in the summer. With a strong cast and writing, along with the fact that they find the perfect way to balance the cops' personal lives and the job, this renewal was inevitable.
