Savannah Guthrie appeared with Matt Lauer for the first time on 'Today'. However, oddly the show made no formal statement about the anchor change. It seems the producers weren't quite ready to make an official announcement as of yet. Nobody seems sure why.
Rumor had it that Lauer agreed to the contract under one major condition. That was that Curry would get replaced as his co-anchor. However, since the contract signing, Lauer has vehemently denied having anything to do with deciding who'd sit in the co-anchor chair.
Sadly, a lot of people don't believe him. The timing of Curry's ouster is just too perfect. Once more, Curry's fans aren't one bit happy with the change. Even a few of Matt's fans don't like the way everything has gone down. It's been ugly; forever tarnishing their hero's shining armor.
It doesn't seem that anyone has anything against Guthrie herself. In fact, she's managed to rack up a few fans of her own in her year with Today. However, she isn't as well-known to viewers who watch the show for the news side of things and not for the entertainment side. Therefore, they might have a tough time accepting her.
When the official announcement about Savannah Guthrie will actually be made remains unknown. Word has it that Lauer's on vacation beginning next week. It seems unlikely anything will take place in his absence, but who knows?
One thing is certain. Today isn't handling the situation well. That could mean more ratings loss for the show that once ruled early morning television.
