Things ended pretty well for Will and the New Directions at the end of Glee season 3. They won Nationals, and the rest of the school acknowledged their success with a celebration upon their return. Since they lost some of their key members when they graduated, what does that mean for New Directions in the fall?
Season 4 Spoilers
According to TVLine, Matthew Morrison has previewed, "We've never been on top before, so the season starts with [the questions of] A) How do you stay on top? And B), how do you keep those spirits up and try to do it again? And with a whole new crop of people. Now it's the 'cool club' in school — everyone wants to be a part of it - and Will is having a hard time trying to find people who are passionate about performing." That means there are going to be more problems, not only for Will, but likely for those who did not graduate. Is there going to be a "new Rachel" who wants to join and take over the female lead just because this is the "cool club" now? (The premiere is titled "The New Rachel," so it is certainly possible.)
After they won Nationals last year, there's the added pressure to do the same this year, but can that happen with the new New Directions in Glee season 4? If those who haven't graduated yet take the lead, it is possible, but first, Will's going to have to figure out who should be part of the club and who's just there because they won last year. At the same time, he faces possibly turning away someone who's truly interested because there are people who aren't really. It should be interesting to see who makes the cut in the beginning of the season and who stays with New Directions as the season progresses.
