Emma Watson has finally responded to rumors that she's a favorite to play Anastasia Steele in the 50 Shades of Grey movie.
The producers of the film recently denied that Emma and Matt Bomer had been cast as Ana and Christian Grey after quickly-spreading internet reports claimed that they had won the coveted roles. In fact, no one has been approached for any role in the movie because it doesn't have a script for actors and actresses to read. The director also hasn't been named, although there have been jokes that the job should go to Kristen Stewart's partner-in-cheating Rupert Sanders.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Emma confirmed that she hasn't been in talks to play Ana. Here's what she said about the 50 Shades of Grey movie:
"I haven't read the book, I haven't a read a script, nothing. There are so many movies you become attached to when I've literally never even received a phone call. It was the same way with The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo - I never even saw a script!"
Emma mentioned that movie because there was lots of speculation that she chopped off her hair in hopes of winning the coveted role of hacker Lisbeth Salander.
Interestingly enough, now The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo actress Rooney Mara is also making lists of actresses that could play Anastasia Steele. Other names that keep popping up are Pretty Little Liars star Lucy Hale (who has said that she would be interested in the role); Game of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke; Mirror, Mirror star Lily Collins; and Gilmore Girls beauty Alexis Bledel. As far as the role of Christian Grey goes, favorites include White Collar actor Matt Bomer; DietTribe trainer Jessie Pavelka; The Vampire Diaries star Ian Somerhalder; and The Notebook actor Ryan Gosling.
Emma Watson apparently decided to respond to the 50 Shades casting rumors herself because family members started asking her if they were true.
Those disappointed that the brunette beauty isn't trading her wand and robe for whips and lingerie shouldn't lose hope - surprisingly she didn't tell EW that she's not interested in starring in the 50 Shades movie. Of course this could be because she hasn't read the book, but surely she has some idea what it's about.
Some Harry Potter fans don't like the idea of Emma going from playing a super-smart sorceress to starring as a sex slave, but she is all grown up now and ready to leave that goody-goody image behind. In fact, she plays a criminal who likes to wear sexy clothes in the upcoming movie Bling Ring, and she gets to dance around in lingerie in The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Sadly she can't be Hermione forever.
So do you think that she'll give 50 Shades a chance once a script has been written?
