J.K. Rowling and magic fans take note: Fifty Shades of Grey has officially outsold Harry Potter in the U.K. What does this say about what people like to read these days?
According to a report from Zap 2 It, more than four million of the first book in the Fifty Shades trilogy have been sold since going on sale in the U.K. in March. The final book in the Harry Potter series is presently being outsold by more that 2 to 1.
Does this mean muggles like S&M? Are those not part of the world of wizardry looking to another form of fantasy for their leisurely reading pleasure?
In the U.S. there's always a buzz about which Hollywood stars might best play the roles of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele. Is this happening in the U.K. as well? Referred to in the U.S. as 'mommy porn,' the books are in the hands of a vast range of women from those in their 70's to teens.
How do you feel about Fifty Shades of Grey outselling Harry Potter? Is this indicative of the downfall of society or simply greater sexual freedom among women who like to read?
